How to Iron Clothes

I know someone who doesn't like ironing clothes. According to her, she spends so much time doing this chore. I'm sure there are other people who are also not keen on ironing clothes. Ironing clothes, however, is such an easy task, particularly if you know the proper way of doing it. So, for those who are eager to learn and those who are having difficulty with this chore, here is a step-by-step procedure for ironing clothes.

  1. Check the garment's tag. Looking at the tag will help you determine the kind of material used to make the garment and the right setting for the iron.
  2. If your are using a steam iron, make sure that you fill the iron with the right amount of water.
  3. Set the iron on the right setting. Cotton and linen are ironed using a high setting, cotton mixes and wool on a medium level, and low setting for nylon, polyester, silk and other similar fabrics.
  4. Put the clothing to be pressed on the ironing board. Make sure that the garment has been stretched flat across the ironing board.
  5. Start ironing. Keep moving the iron, do not linger too long over any part of the garment. If there's a wrinkle that refuses to iron out, place the garment back on the ironing board and apply the iron to the area where the wrinkles appear, or spray some water on it and iron over with steam.

    Note:
When ironing shirts, you need to run the iron first on the collar and then on the sleeves before ironing the rest of the shirt. In ironing pants, turn it inside out first, then begin ironing at the waistband, move toward the pockets, fly, seams of the pants, then the hems.
  6. Hang the garment directly after ironing.
